Representatives from our company recently attended the LeadingRE Annual Conference 2018. A number of inspiring speakers gave talks, and I just thought I’d share some of the more interesting points. I hope you’ll enjoy!

Communication via email/text isn’t always best

Old ways of doing things are coming back into style – sometimes, they are more effective. We should all start picking up the phone more often!

Scientific research shows emailing isn’t always productive, and often causes miscommunication.Email/text messaging can be often distracting, and if done in a rush can also lead to one seeming less intelligent or lazy.

Our voice also humanizes us.

By some estimates, empathy has dropped by 40% in the past 30 years but mostly since 2000, due to technology.

“When you talk you are only repeating something you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.” Dalai Lama

The Power of Smiling

A smile uses 12 of 44 facial muscles.

A frown uses only 10 of 44 facial muscles.

We live longer by smiling, and smiling is contagious 50% of the time!

So remember to smile, and have conversations eye to eye (or at least ear to ear) if you can help it.

And let me know if I can ever help by having a conversation ear to ear, or eye to eye!

Best,

Connie
