Last night we had a power outage in Santa Monica. We were without electricity only for about an hour of the evening, butI had to find my way in the dark to get flashlights and the fire starter for candles, and I tripped over Elvis, one of my three dogs! This made me wish that I’d been a little more prepared…

Power can go out for any number of reasons, and, living in California, earthquakes are always a possibility. At Christmas time, I happened to buy a bunch of those little battery-powered LED candles, which, I realized last night, are a brilliant idea, because they’re not a fire hazard, so you can put them anywhere. They’re also greatto use year-round- plant manyaround your house, and you’ll never have to worry in the case of a power outage!

We’ve had it pretty easy for a long time, but it’s importanttobe prepared.Today I am buying a bunch of flashlightsandmore batteries, and I will put it in my calendar at the end of every year to throw out the old batteries. Be more prepared than I was!
