It’s that time of year again! I love Thanksgiving. A friend of mine is hosting on Thursday, so yesterday, I helped her decorate the house. We got amazing ideas online and from magazine articles!
Now, this is important: if you are traveling this holiday…please be mindful of security. You don’t have to set up a Rube Goldberg-like rigthe wayMacaulay Culkin did in “Home Alone,” but here are a couple basic rules to keep in mind:
- Keep some lights on while you’re gone. This will give the impression that you’re home and may dissuade potential burglars.
- Ask a neighbor or a friend to pop by the house to check on things. Not only will this make it look like people are around, but if there is anything of note, your friend will be able to tell you sooner (or, goodness forbid, report it), which will facilitate getting to the bottom of things. In addition, ask the friend to pick up mail and newspapers so they’re not piling up in the driveway and giving a freebie to potential burglars.
This holiday gives us all an opportunity to remember how lucky we are, appreciate friends and family, and be grateful for all we have.As the below cartoon suggests, one day a year does, indeed, hardly seem adequate – so practice your thanks year-round.
Oh and, enjoy the video from “Home Alone” below. It never gets old. 🙂
My best wishes to you this holiday season,
Connie
